Some of you might be saying, “Wow, how could you possibly replace Thanksgiving turkey? It’s TRADITION!”
Well, I’m here to admit to you that this year will be my first year to be “in charge” of making a Thanksgiving meal, and I DO NOT look forward to the ever-tricky turkey cooking. In fact, I’m planning on avoiding it all together!
You may send as much hate mail as you’d like. (Actually please don’t, it’ll hurt my heart either way.)
Why I don’t Plan on Making Turkey for Thanksgiving
Now most of my family and friends are probably thinking, “That’s because you’re a vegetarian.” Which was true for 18 years, until a few months ago. (That’s a story for later.)
- I DO NOT know how to cook meat. I really, really struggle with cooking with meat. My poor husband. It’s a good thing he’ll eat anything.
- Can I just say that I don’t even like turkey? I just don’t like the dryness of turkey and don’t look forward to hours of cooking and having it flop.
- I can get away with this because it’s just going to be the hubby and I for Thanksgiving. We recently moved to a state without any family and friends and will be spending the holiday, just the two of us! I don’t have to deal with family drama with this decision so that’s a plus!
If you are reading this, you probably have some similar reasons or other reasons for wanting an alternative to turkey. I’d love to hear about them!
Off the top of my head, my mind reverts back to my vegetarian lifestyle and says, “No turkey, no meat! Easy solution!” To my vegetarian, vegan readers out there, I bet you are Hurrah-ing with that sentiment. To be fair to everyone, I have a list of different meat alternatives as well!
I will list some turkey dinner that, in my opinion, are easier to make than the traditional turkey.
